The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
